WoS Updates + Misc News

Happy Friday all, I hope this post finds you well in the world.

First I'd like to cover some relatively minor things pertaining to WoS.

Polls: There's a new poll up on the right hand side of the page, please click buttons to your little heart's content. I'm a horribly curious/sometimes nosy person, and I love the numbers that come from polls. The last poll showed me that I had a rather large (read: my reader base is still pretty small, so the ratios are probably skewed quite a bit) portion of Horde readers. So, hello to my Horde brothers, sisters, and everything in between! Zug zug and all that ^_^

Link Love: I've retitled "The Guide Book" as Resources/Blog Roll. Please check out the many great sites and blogs I have listed there, they are all well worth your time.

Guides: All of my guides are now listed under "Guides." My "Raid Leading for Dummies" and "How to Become a Raider" guides still need revamping, but the totem guide has been brought up to date. The rest should more or less still be okay. If I have improper information on any of those guides, please feel free to let me know.

Ads: There has been a single ad strip up on my page for a bit now, but I haven't really pointed it out any. Please feel free to check out any of the (proper) links that it provides. Any revenue generated through the ads on this blog will be put forward into getting myself back into WoW and thus hopefully in return that shall produce a better blogging product for you all. If there are any ads of sketchy content that pop up, please let me know. I have yet to see any gold selling ads or any ads of bad content as of yet, but I will happily blacklist anything of poor value.

Articles: I finally reinstalled WoW Model Viewer the other night, and hope to start putting out The Rack again. While I have a few ideas of my own, any clothing combination ideas are certainly welcome! I love input/feedback/participation. Please, don't be shy.

Secondly I'd like to address a few RL things more or less pertaining to me and this blog.

Computer Issues: I've been having a ton of errors and crashes lately within my browser, and while this may or may not be Firefox related, it greatly concerns me and affects the performance of my dinosaur laptop. After a day or so's worth of work, my machine basically bogs down/lags to the point where I have to force a restart. I fear that this machine may only have a few months to live. In the case that it's sooner than expected, I may accidentally disappear for a bit. Don't fret too hard though, if that happens I have some short term backups that should allow me to let you all know wtf happened this time.

WoW: I still am unfortunately not able to get back into game due to the previously mentioned dino laptop + RL finances. I have a determined goal set for myself to return to the game prior to Children's week though. It will happen! *Game Face* Regardless of this fact, I'm keeping up to date on things as much as possible and by no means will I be slowing down my blogging. What can I say, I'm an obsessive die-hard and it's kind of disgusting : P Of course due to me being out of the game as long as I have been now, I may miss a few of the newly implemented factors in some of my posts/guides. Please don't be shy about correcting me about these mistakes, I honestly would appreciate it.

Lastly and most importantly, I'd like to touch on RL world events that doesn't pertain to my little corner of the WoW world.

Japan: Unless you live under some strange rock that some how includes my blog but excludes world news and the world of Twitter, you've probably heard about the huge earthquake that hit Japan, and are now hearing about the various Tsunamis that are not only affecting Asia and the surrounding areas, but the American/Canadian coastlines as well. Please, if you're the praying type, keep the families and folks affected by this natural disaster in your prayers, and if you're not the praying type, positive thoughts never go amiss.

By the sounds of it, the Red Cross is taking donations to help out the Japanese and those affected by this rather large natural disaster. If you're able and feel so inclined to donate, please follow that link. It should direct you in the right direction.

If you're within the quake zone or in the areas under the Tsunami warnings, please stay safe.

That is all I have for this update. Until the next post, keep your feet dry.

Hoarders: Azeroth Edition - Miscfit Pets

Welcome one and all to the final installment of Mini Pet Month! This week Hoarders: Azeroth Edition will be showcasing all of the pets that are acquired though random and not necessarily in game means.

These miscfit...err misfit...pets don't really have an epic tale to tell, unless of course you consider feats of strength, pure RNG luck, being at the right place at the right time, having the right professions in game, or having a sizable wallet to be an epic situation. Then I suppose the story of acquisition told would solely belong to the owner of the pet, and not the general populous.

Here is your list of miscellaneous pets that are acquired by means other than what was originally implemented within each expansion pack.

I'd really like to take a moment to recognize a few sites that enabled me to put together all of these companion lists, as well as point you in the direction of where you can find some of these purchasable pets (if your wallet allows you to partake in some of this RL bound collecting that is).

Warcraft Pets - The Vanity Pets index on this site was incredibly valuable with putting this together. Without it, it would have taken me months to compose a complete list. Warcraftpets.com is pretty good about keeping up to date on the latest and greatest pet editions to the game, and it allows you to keep a profile of all the pets you have/have yet to collect. I highly recommend this site for all pet collectors.
Wowhead - Not only is this my go-to site for all of the links within these lists, Wowhead's comment section is a wealth of information (usually). If you don't find the information you seek right off the bat while looking at the item in question, check the comments section. Usually you can find the answers you seek there.
MMO-Champion - This is my source for all things data-mined and PTR. If you don't already check MMO Champ on a regular basis, it may be something for you to look into.
Blizzard Store - Head on over to the Blizzard Store in order to purchase a variety of virtual pets. Some even come with plushies!
World of Warcraft Trading Card Game - This is the source for those wonderful TGC loot cards that any collector would love to get their hands on. If your luck is poor at obtaining the illusive loot cards via buying packets, you can always try your hand at getting the item of your desires through eBay.

Many thanks to these sites for all of the hard work that has been put out. Without your contributions this list would probably have never been made and all of us collectors would be left in the dark. /salute!

That is all for this month's theme. Next week we'll move onto a different collection for you all to consider getting interested in. Until then, happy hoarding hoarders!

Horde: Are they really the bad guys?

The shared topic over at Blog Azeroth this week is certainly one that makes you stop and think. Whether or not you really get into the lore of Azeroth, more than likely you have some basic opinion about which faction is good or evil. I'd like to explore the idea of the Horde's moral position with you all.

This week's topic is brought to us by Ringo Flinthammer.

For years, fans of the Horde have described them as noble savages or, at worst, misunderstood people trying to make their way in a hostile world.

But that may have changed in the wake of the Cataclysm. The Forsaken have rolled across the northern lands of the Eastern Kingdoms, slaughtering all enemies in the Hillsbrad Foothills and seek to claim Gilneas for their own. The orcish war machine is rolling across Kalimdor, unleashing fire and devastation in Azshara and the Stonetalon Mountains. Horde NPCs even argue amongst themselves about the brutality of their methods.

Has the Horde changed? Is Blizzard merely clarifying the way they've always wanted to portray them? Or is this merely the start of a story about the soul of the Horde?

As a fair warning, I am by no means the biggest lore enthusiast out there, but I have done some minor dabbling. I know generally who was jilted by who, why one faction may have a chip on their shoulder about the other, the reasonings behind why some races allied with which side, so on and so forth. When asked the question "Is the Horde the evil faction in WoW?" I'd have to be inclined to say no, even as a member of the Alliance. In order to convince you why I would say this, let me lay out my rational via giving a minor break down as to why the Horde is aligned the way that they are. Feel free to correct me on any points I may accidentally have gotten wrong.

Orcs - These guys are given a bad name mainly due to their tempers. They were enslaved, tampered with by demon blood, hunted by the Humans...they've been through some pretty nasty situations. I think they have some right to be rather defensive. Did they go overboard with some of their killing rampages? Probably. Thrall has done wonders to calm the blood lust of his people though, bringing them back to what can be considered "civil." It will be interesting to see what kind of influence Garrosh has over the Orcs. We may need to hide the Shaman while he's doing the leading.

Are Orcs evil: Depends on which branch of Orcs we're talking about. The one's in Hellfire Peninsula? Yeah, I'd toss them in the evil pile, but the last I knew they weren't a part of the Horde. The typical green guy we see strutting on Orgrimmar? Nah, not evil. Having a temper does not make one evil, demon blood on the other hand...yeah, that could do it. It may be possible that Orc Warlocks are evil, but you'd have to question one's motives before casting that judgment.

Tauren - Sweet, giant, land loving cow people. The Tauren needed help, the Orcs came to the rescue. Because of that simple act the Tauren are allied with the Horde. It seems to be an alliance out of a sense of debt more than anything else, but it's what you'd expect out of such a noble race.

Are Tauren evil: Not in the least. Except for those flower-picking druids who get a kick out of ninjaing nodes. Their moral values are debatable.

Trolls - These guys kind of have a sketchy past. They deal with da Voodoo mon. Trolls have been known to be vicious. The Horde's brand of Troll though? I'm not convinced that those guys are evil. They simply want a place to call their own. They needed help, the Orcs lent a hand, now the Trolls are allied with the Horde. Heck, they shared a home city with the Orcs for the longest time. That brotherly outreach from the Orcs was certainly compassionate in my eye.

Are Trolls evil: Dey may mess wit da Voodoo mon, but dey jus be wantin' a place to call 'ome. Dun cross der paths, and dey not be harmin' ya.

Blood Elves - Shunned by the Night Elves, cast aways who landed on the shores of northern Eastern Kingdoms, sufferers of a severe magic addiction, devastated by a vicious attack launched by the Scourge. They lost part of their beloved Silvermoon City, they lost Sylvanas and many of their fellow people, eventually they lost Kael as well. The Blood Elves have been through some stuff. They're a bit callous, somewhat vicious, and I can't help but have my heart go out to them. They have known suffering. They're the drug addicts of WoW who have witnessed their families being massacred by the undead scourge. They needed help, and because of the past actions of the Alliance, they turned to the Horde (whom they found out Sylvanas was a part of, so they reluctantly joined up).

Are Blood Elves evil: As much as one would like to hate their vicious beauty, you cannot really call Blood Elves evil. They've been wounded as a people badly, and they're defensive because of it. It's a coping mechanism, and I certainly cannot consider them evil for using it.

Goblins - They're sneaky, thrifty, shady little devils. They're the new kids on the block as far as team Horde is concerned, and quite frankly I don't know a ton about them yet. So yeah, I got nothing.

Are Goblins evil: Depends on if they steal your socks or not to make a quick buck. They're kind of shady, so they *may* be evil...but are they Deathwing evil? Nah.

The Forsaken, aka the Undead - Out of all of the members of the Horde, the Undead would be the group that I'd consider to be the most likely to be "evil." They're a sketchy, baggy boned bunch raised from the dead for one purpose: to be an army. Ever since Sylvanas has been brought back from the dead (again) and the Val'kyr have joined the Forsaken, the Undead ranks have been swelling. Frankly, I think something has been done to Sylvanas to cause her to raise resting souls unwillingly from the dead. Before she had a right to be miffed at the world; she was captured by the Lich King, killed, and raised as a banshee slave until she managed to free herself. Now though? Something bigger is at play.

Are the Undead evil: At best I give them a possibly. The vast majority of the Forsaken have been turned or risen from the dead unwillingly, and rallied under Sylvanas to take down the causes for their creation. There's something more sinister going on within the Undead ranks now though, and while many of it's people are not at fault, something fishy is definitely going on.

So, do I believe the Horde are evil? As a whole, no. There are some rather sketchy characters within their ranks, but just because you have a few bad apples in the bunch doesn't mean that the fruit as a whole is bad. The Horde are by no means more "evil" than the Alliance, who - I say this despite my great love for the Alliance, her people, and it's cities - have done some pretty incredibly shady things themselves because of politics and in the name old, terrible, pointless, and often misguided feuds.

Has the Horde changed as of late? Most certainly. Garrosh is now at the helm of the Orcs, Sylvanas seems to have been tainted somehow, Cairne is dead, and the Goblins have aligned with the Horde. Politics have changed drastically within that few year jump that Cataclysm gave us, so of course things have changed quite a bit for the Horde. I think Blizzard's story line is simply progressing very similarly to how things would change in real life had this political shift happened. I don't really think it has anything to do with how they want the Horde to be portrayed, nor do I necessarily think that the current or future actions have anything to do with the "soul" of the Horde as a whole. Each race has their own reasonings for choosing the side that they did, and even the NPCs are nervous as of late about the actions they are forced to take.

It all boils down to politics and misunderstandings, neither of which I'm a big fan of, but they seem rather unavoidable. The plot is thickening dear readers, and it shall be interesting to see how the Horde keeps its fragile alliance together.

20 Days of...Your Best WoW Memory (Day 4)

Yet another installment of Saga's 20 Days of... questionnaire/challenge/thingy!

There have been many, many memorable moments for me in WoW. There have been many a night where good laughs were had, ridiculousness has ensued, and loot to have been won. There is definitely one event though that clearly sticks out in my mind when asked about my "best" WoW memory.

Late one October day an incredibly groggy Saz logs onto World of Warcraft. It was in the evening and I had just woken up from yet another not-so-great sleep, and I was groggy as they come. Anyways, I logged into WoW and right away I get a "Saz, get in vent now. Also, get in this raid group."

Now, a groggy Saz is an incredibly slow Saz. Groggy Saz brain went into panic mode when the first thing she encountered upon logging in was "Get in vent now." My thought process was as follows:

Was there a coup?
Did some major drama happen whilst I was sleeping, and did we lose half of the guild?
Did one of the officers get hacked...is the guild bank okay...is the guild still in tact?
Oh my god, wtf is going on?!

Enter Saz revving up to go into full blown momma GM mode.

So, I log into Ventrilo and I get a "Saz, come to the beer garden (in Dalaran)." Needless to say, I was really friggen puzzled. So I waggled my little Shaman butt over to the beer garden, and what did I see? Why, several guildies mulling about. Further puzzlement ensued as I took a seat at one of the picnic tables. I was overly worried at this point since I still had no idea what was going on, and no one was telling me.

Eventually a trade window opens up.
Gold is put into said trade window.
20k gold to be exact.

*Groggy Saz poops self a little and is confused even further!*

Then I received the command to go buy myself a Traveler's Tundra Mammoth...Uh, what? Hang on, you want me to do what? Buy a friggen Mammoth?!

Dazed and confused (not to be confused with the movie), I toddled on over to Mei Francis and did as I was instructed to do: I purchased a Traveler's Tundra Mammoth. Once the achievement popped, there was much cheering from those in the raid chat and in vent. I was stunned, flabbergasted, in disbelief; I had a vendor mammoth.

The whole event was kind of like some kind of weird zombie dream, but once it kind of sunk in what had happened, I was over the moon. My beloved guildies had pooled enough gold together to buy me, ME of all people, a mount. I don't think I was ever quite able to convey the amount of thanks I felt to them about this gift. I did my best I could though with giving people rides around Dalaran for what seemed to be hours.

His name is Malcolm. He may not be my favorite mount to ride, but he is by far one of my most favorite mounts ever. Malcolm has been a blessing to have during all those long nights farming, has been great to have during various raids where someone may have accidentally forgot/ran out of reagents, or has just been fun to have in general. I favor him so much that he actually got a name; only two of my mounts have ever actually been named, the other being Sally Struthers, the first mount I ever purchased.

So there you have it. My favorite memory + my favorite in game present (or at the very least, the most expensive!) ever.

Cataclysm Totem Guide: Part 3 (Fire and Water)

In the Cataclysm Totem Guide: Part 1 we covered our totems and what their equivalent buffs are. We also touched briefly on which totems you should consider using. Part 2 of the guide covered the uses of our Air and Earth totems. In part 3 of my guide I will try to expand the basic knowledge on our Fire and Water totems and try to give some tips that may help you decide which totems to use in which situation.

A few things to note:
- All totems have instant cast times.
- Up to four totems can be dropped at once.
- Only one totem per school may be used at one time per Shaman. This means that you personally cannot have two fire totems out at the same time, for example.
- Totem up time can be adjusted through the talent Totemic Focus - Restoration tree (Rank1/Rank2).
- All totems are considered to be of the physical school.

Fire Totems
Flametongue
Use: Increases spell power by 6%.
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 40 yards
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 11% of base mana
Modifications: Totemic Wrath (Elemental Only)

This is a typical fire totem for a Restoration Shaman, assuming there isn't a mage around to cast Arcane Brilliance. Elemental Shaman have a talent called Totemic Wrath that increases Flametongue Totem's spell power base to 10% instead of 6%. Demonology Warlocks have have a buff called Demoic Pact, which is the same as an Elemental Shaman's Totemic Wrath talent.

Confused on what to use when? Here's a list of situations.

A) If you have a Demonology Warlock in your raid, don't worry about Flametongue; use another fire totem instead. Searing Totem or Fire Elemental Totem are both great choices in non-AoE situations.
B) If you do NOT have a Demonology Warlock, but you are an Elemental Shaman, use your Flametongue Totem. If you are not an Elemental Shaman, but have one in your raid, see the second half of situation A.
C) If you do NOT have a Demonology Warlock or an Elemental Shaman in your raid, but you DO have a Mage, see the second half of situation A.
D) If you are a Restoration Shaman who does NOT have a Demonology Warlock, Elemental Shaman, or a Mage in your raid group, use Flametongue Totem.
E) If you are Enhancement, you get to be greedy and not use Flametongue at all. If you are extremely caster heavy though, or you're missing all spell power boosts in your raid somehow (highly unlikely, but you never know), Flametongue *might* be handy to use. It's highly unlikely that you'll ever find yourself in that kind of a pinch though.

Searing
Use: Hurls fireballs at enemies. Prefers targets effected by Flame Shock or Stormstrike.
Duration: 1 minute
Cooldown: None
Range: 0-20 yards
Party/Raid: The bad guys.
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 5% of base mana
Modifications: Searing Flames (Rank1/Rank2/Rank3)

This is an Enhancement Shaman's bread and butter fire totem. If you are an Enhancer, you should be specced into Searing Flames, as it increases the chance to "set the target aflame." If you do this, and allow Searing Flames to stack to 5 on your target and then hit Lava Lash, you shall have yourself a tasty bit of damage.

For Restoration or Elemental Shaman who do not need to use their Flametongue Totem due to that buff already being present in the raid, and find their Fire Elemental on cooldown (or waiting to be used at a certain opportune moment to release the big fire guy), this is a definite DPS option.

A fair warning about this totem: It's buggy.

You must always be aware of what target this totem is attacking, and if it's attacking a target at all. In theory it's supposed to favor targets who are affected by Flame Shock or Stormstrike, but this isn't always the case. The AI isn't the brightest in this little totem, so it must be baby sat a bit. The relaying down of this totem may be needed to fix any targeting issues.

Magma
Use: Causes 268 fire damage to all surrounding enemies every 2 seconds.
Duration: 21 seconds
Cooldown: None
Range: 8 yards
Party/Raid: All the bad guys.
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 18% of base mana
Modifications: None

The AoE (area of effect) damage totem for Shamans. It will scale in damage according to how much spell power the caster has. Works well in conjunction with Fire Nova for situations containing 3+ mobs.

Fire Elemental
Use: Summons a fire elemental to rain destruction on the caster's enemies.
Duration: 3 minutes
Cooldown: 10 minutes
Range: Longish (I assume it's 30-40 yards)
Party/Raid: The bad guys.
Health: Based off a % of the caster's health.
Mana Cost: 23% of base mana
Modifications: Glyph of Fire Elemental Totem

This is a Shaman's big DPS totem, no matter what the spec (okay, it will be a definite DPS loss for an Enhancement shaman with single target, though AoE situations are debatable I think). The fire guy is great for burst damage. His damage scales with the Shaman's spell power (perhaps AP for Enhancers?). He can be healed, is immune to fire damage, can be buffed but will not benefit from Heroism/Bloodlust. He does have a good bit of armor, but the Earth Elemental makes for a better tank. The Fire Elemental's duration can be expanded through Totemic Focus, and his cooldown can be reduced from 10 minutes down to 5 minutes via Glyph of Fire Elemental Totem.

He also makes for great party lighting.

If you're feeling especially fancy, you can now rock both of your Elementals at the same time. Though be warned, your Rock Elemental does taunt, and may not be ideal for most raiding situations. Parties in major cities though? Totally cool.

Water Totems
Mana Tide (Restoration Only)
Use: Everyone within range of this totem gains 400% of the caster's Spirit for the duration of the totem's life, excluding short duration Spirit bonuses.
Duration: 12 seconds
Cooldown: 3 minutes
Range: 40 yards
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 10% of the caster's health
Mana Cost: None
Modifications: Totemic Focus

Mana Tide Totem is a Restoration Shaman's best friend (and a dear friend to all other healers as well) in mana tight situations. This totem is similar to a Druid's Innervate and a Priests Hymn of Hope. You will need to coordinate with your raid when you should toss down this totem if you're working with multiple mana return cooldowns, but the general rule is that sooner is a bit better than later. What I mean by this is don't wait until you're OOM (out of mana) to drop this totem; use it sooner in the fight so that you can possibly have it for a second time a bit later on in the fight. This totem feeds off of the Spirit that the casting Shaman has (the more Spirit they have, the more the return to the raid will be), but it will NOT include any temporary Spirit procs, nor does it seem that it will gain an extra Spirit boost from an on-use trinket effect.

The talent Totemic Focus WILL extend the duration for the totem. Combine the reduced totem cost with the longer life duration of your totems, and you have yourself two well spent talent points for a Restoration Shaman in my opinion.

Mana Spring
Use: Restores 326 mana per 5 seconds.
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 40 yards
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 4% of base mana
Modifications: None

This totem is great for boosting a group/raid's mana return. However, unless you're experiencing severe range issues, this totem is unnecessary if you have a Paladin casting Blessing of Might (unless you die, there should be no range issues at all with this buff) or a Warlock rocking the Fel Hunter, which gives Fel Intelligence (you *might* have range issues with this guy, but it's rather unlikely with a range of 100 yards).

Healing Stream
Use: Heals party members for (28 + (the spell power of the caster) * .0827) every 2 seconds.
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 30 yards
Party/Raid: Party Only
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 3% of base mana
Modifications: Glyph of Healing Stream, Soothing Rain - Restoration Only (Rank1/Rank2)

In the event that you do not need Mana Spring Totem, this is typically the totem of choice. This totem will stack, but is party only. However, if you happen to use Glyph of Healing Stream, the effects of that glyph will be raid wide; even glyphed, Healing Stream Totem will still be party-wide only.

Speccing into Soothing Rain will greatly increase the healing effects of this totem, by a whopping 50%. The spell power of the casting Shaman will also effect the strength of this totem. Couple this with the Glyph of Healing Stream (resist to fire, frost, nature damage), and you have yourself a fairly strong healing tool.

Note: Resistances do not stack. The higher resistance value will always override the smaller resistance value.

Quote from the comments section at Wowhead by Biske.
-Overwrites values it exceeds (Fire, Frost, and Nature with Mark of the Wild and Blessing of Kings)
-Leaves the resistances it does not buff alone (Arcane and Shadow for Mark of the Wild and Blessing of Kings)
-Coexists with it's counterpart without stacking (Equal value as Resistance Aura in Fire and Frost, while covering Nature instead of Shadow)

It will never stack with any of these group buffs
.
Elemental Resistance
Use: Increases fire, frost, and nature resistances.
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 30 yards
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 8% of base mana
Modifications: None

A rather pointless totem if you are sporting Glyph of Healing Stream Totem. It offers up the same amount of resistances that the glyph gives, and you lose out on the extra healing from the Healing Stream Totem. If for some reason you do not have the glyph, nor have a Hunter to toss up Aspect of the Wild (nature resist), a Paladin to use Resistance Aura (fire/frost/shadow resist) or a Druid using Mark of the Wild (all magical resist), then help out the healing team by popping out this totem.

Note: Resistances do not stack. The higher resistance value will always override the smaller resistance value.

Totem of the Tranquil Mind
Use: Reduces the loss of casting or channeled time when damaged by 30%.
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 30 yards
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 8% of base mana
Modifications: None

This totem can be quite handy to casters who are suffering from excessive push-back caused by taking damage. If your casters (or you) are suffering from push-back, and there isn't a Paladin around using Concentration Aura, consider using this totem.

Cataclysm Totem Guide: Part 2 (Air and Earth)

In the Cataclysm Totem Guide: Part 1 we covered our totems and what their equivalent buffs are. We also touched briefly on which totems you should consider using. In part 2 of my guide I will try to expand the basic knowledge on our Air and Earth totems and try to give some tips that may help you decide which totems to use in which situation.

A few things to note:
- All totems have instant cast times.
- Up to four totems can be dropped at once.
- Only one totem per school may be used at one time per Shaman. This means that you personally cannot have two fire totems out at the same time, for example.
- Totem up time can be adjusted through the talent Totemic Focus - Restoration tree (Rank1/Rank2)..
- All totems are considered to be of the physical school.

Air Totems
Windfury
Use: Increases melee and ranged attack speed by 10%
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 40 yards
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 11% of base mana
Modifications: None

Typically this is the totem of choice for Enhancement Shamans or Shamans who find themselves in melee heavy groups. If you have a Death Knight with Improved Icy Talons or a Survival Hunter specced into Hunting Party near by, this totem is unnecessary. Feel free to double up though if the other air totems are not of use to you to help prevent range issues.

Wrath of Air
Use: Increases spell haste by 5%
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 40 yards
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 11% of base mana
Modifications: None

This is the favorite totem of the Restoration and Elemental type of Shaman, and may be used by an Enhancer if he/she finds themselves in a caster heavy group. It's unnecessary to use this totem if you find yourself grouped with a Shadow Priest or Balance Druid thanks to Shadowform/Moonkin Form. Just like with Windfury totem though, feel free to double up with this buff in the event that you feel range may present an issue.

Grounding
Use: Redirects one harmful spell cast at a nearby party member to itself. This act will destroy the totem. Does not work on area of effect (AoE) spells.
Duration: 45 seconds
Cooldown: 15 seconds
Range: "Nearby" (Assuming this is 20-40 yards)
Party/Raid: Party
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 5% of base mana
Modifications: Glyph of Grounding Totem

This totem is excellent against casters (and will also absorb certain spells from melee types as well) in PvP as well as great against mobs/bosses who toss out single target spells. Great situational usage to help negate incoming spell damage. Can be glyphed to reflect spells back at the caster, though the cooldown is extended to 45 seconds (recast of totem).

Earth Totems
Strength of Earth
Use: Increases Agility and Strength by 549.
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 40 yards
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 10% of base mana
Modifications: None

A bread and butter totem for Enhancement Shaman. Could also be used by a caster Shaman when they find themselves in a melee group missing melee buffs, or in a melee starved composition to help buff a tank. This buff is the same as a Warrior's Battle Shout, a Death Knight's Horn of Winter, and a Hunter's pet's Roar of Courage (cat). In theory there should not be any range issues with this buff seeing as though DKs should be always keeping up their HoW to help with Runic Power, likewise with Warriors keeping up BS for Rage (or just shier habit for either of these classes). A Hunter's cat will automatically refresh this buff to anyone in a 100 yard range, assuming it can stay alive.

Only double up with this buff if range issues become prevalent (this shouldn't be much of an issue honestly, especially with a Hunter's pet) or in the event a melee/tank dies and is not in range for a refresh from a Warrior/DK.

Stoneskin
Use: Increases armor by 4075.
Duration: 5 minutes
Cooldown: None
Range: 40
Party/Raid: Both
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 10% of base mana
Modifications: None

This is a great totem to help reduce physical attacks on either yourself/group/raid (PvP) or your tanks (PvE). Paladins also offer this buff from Devotion Aura, and more than likely a Protection Paladin will have this aura active against physical damage dealing bosses. In the event that you don't have a Paladin running this aura though, or that you're outside of a Paladin's 40 yard range for some reason, feel free to pop this totem down to help reduce the damage your tank's face may take.

Stoneclaw
Use: Taunts nearby enemies, has a 50% chance to stun the enemies for 3 seconds. Also protects the user's other totems by giving them a shield that absorbs up to 4143 damage.
Duration: 15 seconds
Cooldown: 20 seconds
Range: 8 yards
Party/Raid: Self
Health: 6186
Mana Cost: 6% base mana
Modifications: Glyph of Stoneclaw Totem

This is the totem that will make fun of your - or anyone else's for that matter - mother. Pretty handy to have out if you're a young solo-er to help keep the mobs off your back, in PvP to help protect your other totems, and it can be glyphed so that it will also place a shield on you which is 4x the strength of the shields it gives to your totems.

Earthbind
Use: Slows the movement speed of enemies.
Duration: 45 seconds
Cooldown: 15 seconds
Range: 10 yards
Party/Raid: Bad Guys
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 5%
Modifications: Earth's Grasp (Rank1/Rank2), Earthen Power (Rank1/Rank2)

In the event that you must get away from enemies, slow them down! This totem is great for getting away from mobs/other players, and can also be very handy in kiting. If you place talent points into Earth's Grasp (Elemental talent tree) you have a 50%/100% chance to also root an enemy in place for 5 seconds. If you place talent points into Earthen Power (Enhancement talent tree) you have a 50%/100% chance to remove snare effects from yourself and all nearby friendly units. Very handy for PvP, but may also have some situational uses in PvE.

Tremor
Use: Shakes the ground to remove Fear, Charm, and Sleep effects. May be dropped while under previously mentioned effects.
Duration: 6 seconds
Cooldown: 1 minute
Range: 30 yards
Party/Raid: Both (Was party only. If you can confirm raid wide, please let me know!)
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 2% of base mana
Modifications: None

Feared? Drop your Tremor Totem. Charmed? Drop your Tremor Totem. That lecture you're sitting through during class putting you to sleep? Drop your Tremor Totem!

This totem has practical uses in both PvE and PvP. Once upon a time this was a party only effect remover, but now it seems to be raid wide. It also used to last 5 minutes and pulse every 5 seconds and could not be dropped while under the effect it is made to help remove, but now that is no longer the case. Once a minute you may drop this totem to help release you from some ailment that makes you lose control of your character, and help you it will for a grand total of 6 seconds. Keep this totem key bound for those situational uses!

Earth Elemental
Use: Summons an elemental that protects the caster and his/her allies.
Duration: 2 minutes
Cooldown: 10 minutes
Range: Longish (I'm assuming ~40 yards)
Party/Raid: Whoever he likes.
Health: Unknown (I'm assuming it scales with the caster's gear)
Mana Cost: 24% of base mana
Modifications: None

The Earth Elemental can be a Shaman's best friend in a sticky situation. He's our "tank" totem. He has a taunt and a semi decent health pool. You may want to keep an eye on his health though, he tends to be a bit squishy. The Earth Elemental (aka our Geodude of WoW) can live through a few hits from a boss, but I strongly suggest only pulling him out in emergency or pre-determined situations.

It is possible to have both the Earth Elemental and Fire Elemental out at the same time now, though even in big DPS cooldown situations I'd be highly cautious about dropping the rock guy. Please, summon your elementals responsibly!

Saz's Weaponry of Choice

I really do enjoyed the shared topics over at Blog Azeroth, so here I am participating once again! This week's topic is brought to us by Kallixta.
Is your favorite weapon something with strong memories for you? Is it something that just works well for RP purposes? Or maybe the balance of abilities meshes better than normal to your spec and play style?
Now, I've had numerous favorite weapons over the years. I typically love certain weapons for how they look, as opposed to how they perform. Take for instance my Pride/Greed set. I love these two fist weapons to death. I received Greed on my first run through the Culling of Stratholme heroic, and prior to that I had no knowledge of this fist weapons existence. Soon after I discovered that Pride was purchasable from a vendor. Needless to say, I was ecstatic. I wore my "oven mits" for many many months, until I managed to snag Calamity's Grasp from Kel'Thuzad in Naxxramas and had replaced Pride with Angry Dread. All four of these items were not only rather incredible for my Enhancement Shaman self, but most importantly I thought that they were incredibly neat looking. It's all about the looks, right? Right.

My ultimate favorite weapon though? Hammer of the Naaru.

Yeah, I was a bad Shaman back in Burning Crusade. I was dual wielding all the way through Karazhan, but once I got this bad boy out of Gruul's Lair, dual wielding was done with until I got my paws on my afore mentioned oven mits in Wrath of the Lich King. Matter of fact, I was still using my Hammer of the Naruu the first time I stepped into Naxxramas. Very, very bad Shaman indeed.

I eventually learned the importance of dual wielding as an Enhancer though, and thanks to my oven mits I have have a very soft spot for fist weapons to this day. I also have a pretty huge weakness for axes. Mmm axes.

Now, if we're talking about my Druid, I'm all about my staves. Sure, there are some pretty neat polearms out there, don't get me wrong. Most staves that you run across though are just...sweet looking. Journey's End is by far my all time favorite staff.

I managed to snag JE on my second run through Naxx, though only because a very sweet hunter decided to give it to me. Once I leveled up my Druid I began to set up Naxx runs for our alts in the guild. Ulduar was out at the time, but we needed something else to do for a bit, and quite frankly I really wanted this staff for my Druid. First time we ran through, it dropped and I was out rolled by a Hunter. Next week we ran Naxx again, and it dropped A SECOND TIME (enter huge squees here...that sucker had only dropped once in all the months I raided that place with my Shaman) and upon rolling, I once again lost to a Hunter. He was incredible though, and said "Here Sazzy, you can have it." So I managed to get my favorite staff that I had lusted over all through Naxx (my Druid may have been a baby through most of Naxx's peak raiding time, but I still loved that staff!) and I will forever be thankful to that one Hunter for being so sweet.

Second favorite staff I've acquired thus far would have to be Twisted Visage. I managed to get this bad boy on my first run through Ulduar 25. A PuG run none the less! I was over the moon, and I used that staff for PvP well to the end of Wrath (hey, I needed hit and wasn't able to get my kitty paws on a proper PvP staff).

There are of course numerous other amazing weapons that I have stashed away across various toons that I've failed to mention, and there is a fairly amazing assortment that I have yet to discover. For now though, the weapons mentioned above hold very special places in my heart.

Hoarders: Azeroth Edition - Cataclysmic Pets

Ah yes, it's Thursday and another week has come and gone. It's that time again folks, time again for Hoarders: Azeroth Edition. It's still Mini Pet Month in my mind, despite us now being in the month of March. Since we are in my mind, and obviously in my blog, this week we shall be going over the Cataclysm mini pets in order to stick with my so called "month" theme.

Seeing as though I have yet to step foot into Cataclysm (sad year...not just day, but thus far year) you all get a video of the new cute little Panther Cub that should be released in 4.1 instead of some random screen shot of mine. I do hope that they fix his clawing tick a bit though. The Nightsaber Cub looks a bit noisy as well yet. Ah well, they're adorable and that's all that matters.

So where are we in the epic tale that I was telling along with giving you all massive lists of all the adorable pets we can hoard? Ah right. Deathwing went "Zomg it's too hot in here! PEACE OUT SUCKAS!!" and burst through his prison beneath the floors of the world and destroyed Azeroth as we knew it. Lava began to flow, Booty Bay got hit by a giant tidal wave and some how lived to tell the story, everyone went "ZOMG APOCALYPSE!!!1!", Chicken Little ran around clucking about how the sky was falling while wearing a saucepan for a helmet, and the two main cities of the Horde and Alliance saw a major make-over in the span of a night (man those peons work fast). Once all the major chaos was over with, everyone came out of hiding and the leveling began. That one noob yelled "DING!!" every time he managed to kill some monsters and somehow eventually gained enough combat experience achieve level 85 heroic-ness, much to the annoyance of everyone around him. He must have made a lot of fries...

With Cataclysm came the implement of a few new factions. These factions decided that once they deemed you trust worthy, should baby sit their pets - permanently. Unfortunately this isn't a paying gig for us, but instead we must pay THEM for the job. Us collectors can't really complain though, what cute little buggers they are! Not to mention, one of the new additions sings. Can't go wrong with a bit of entertainment while you slaughter pixel beasts, right?

Right.

Here's the list of companion pets thus far offered up in Cataclysm. Expect this list to be added onto in the future.

Have a terrific weekend hoarders!
