You're Coming With Us

Well hello readers, long time no legit update/post!

I know that it's been forever since I've done a proper post. I'm sure a few of you have been wondering why I haven't been doing my shared topics, haven't finished either the 20 Days of challenge or even Through Your Interface, or why Hoarders: Azeroth Edition has more or less dropped off of the face of my blog. I could in theory blame it on the fact that I was pretty sick for the past few weeks, distracted by caring for the family a few weeks before the weeks of being ill, been distracted by a certain someone, playing WoW far too much...blah blah blah. I have excuses coming out the nose.

Essentially I've been taking an unintentional break from blogging/writing because of brain soup. I write internally most of the time, and lately I either come up with nothing or I just sound like a total asshole to myself. Therefor, I haven't written much. So what have I been doing?

1) Semi started raiding on Saz again. It's nothing serious since the guild I'm in is super casual. Casual as in only one raid group a week, normal modes only. Three raid nights a week, one of which is an alt run for taking out BoT/BWD. I won't be sniffing Ragnaros' butt crack anytime soon, but it's nice to try and get back into the swing of things once again.

2) I hit level 25 irl last Friday. I'd say there was cake, but there wasn't. Instead there was a giant cookie! And leftovers. It was an amazing birthday : D

3) There's a new boy in my life. No, you cannot have him.

4) It's getting cold as shit here. My summer has disappeared all too soon. Do you know what weather in the 60s and constant clouds do to me? It makes me miserable and unproductive. Throw that onto my list of poor excuses as to why I haven't been writing lately.

5) Alright, we've finally arrived to the super important part of this update:

Battle of Serenity is back!

Yeah, I may or may not have decided to give into the itch and tossed out the idea to my old officers to restart BoS. Why? Because even though the raiding type guilds we have found ourselves in are rather nice, the communities are already rather set in stone which of course leaves very little room for us to connect with these groups on some level. These guilds contain great people, contain more or less what we're looking for in a raiding environment at this moment in time, but they just don't quite feel like home. So we decided to restart Battle of Serenity as a strictly social guild. We might do some throw back raiding now and again, take out Baradin Hold if we have the people on, and run the occasional heroic, but for now our main focus is to have a place where we can relax, bullshit, and host the events we always had fun with but no one else on Aggramar does (Halloween parties, game nights, etc).

In the event that you find yourself to be rolling an Alliance toon on Aggramar (US) and need a home to hang in, hit us up! Our doors are once again officially open and we'd love to have you aboard!

Who's the Boss?

Wednesday (alright, it's Thursday now...) is once again upon us ladies and gents, and that means that we have ourselves another shared topic from Blog Azeroth. This week's topic of interest is brought to us by Nube.

Since Cata started Guilds, matter more. In order to recieve Guild beneffits. everyone most work for them. In Wotlk, Leaving a Guild meant, changing Guild Tags, in Cata means TIME.

Does a Guild belong to those who lead it?. Should we check Guild Etiquette?

Cataclysm has indeed changed the value of a guild to a hard working member. No longer are you simply there under some guild tag to come and go as you please, but now your time and efforts are actually put towards something (ie rewards such as BoAs, mounts, pets, and recipes, among other things), and thusly it now takes some actual thought prior to jumping ship.

With that said, even prior to guild reputation and the perks that come along with it I personally believe that a guild belonged to its members, and that management is simply there to keep the environment healthy. A guild isn't a guild without its members; a guild would potentially run amuck without some sort of management system in place to weed out those personalities that do not fit with the general tone of said guild. Now-a-days this is further emphasized in a way via guild reputation. Someone in your guild who has managed to get themselves revered or even exalted with your guild has obviously put in quite a bit of time and effort. Either they were gathering their butts off (which in turn gives the guild an achievement after a time), crafted their butts off (again, eventually gives the guild an achievement and may unlock some perks), quested like mad, did their dailies, and/or has been a faithful raider to the guild. Obviously this person should be seen as a valued member on some level.

What this basically means is that guild kicking or guild quitting now requires a bit more pause. Sure, a brash player should be tossed out on their bums if they're causing issues within the guild, but I'm sure that hardcore raiding guilds may now keep a few more socials around instead of kicking those players out of their environment once they retire from raiding, just because there are the perks of said players still possibly farming/questing/etc. Likewise, a retired player may not feel the need to leave a guild once they are retired, for they may like the guild perks for leveling alts or what have you. With enough time both you and your guild essentially grow together. Reputation is earned for the player and the guild "levels" through the effort of its guildies.Essentially the new guild perks/reputation system has basically created a certain secure environment for a lot of folks. On the flip side this is semi problematic for those of us who have banker guilds, or perhaps a dead guild that is still used to store alts, but that's a slightly different beast all together.

What all this babbling boils down to is balance. While a guild master technically has the "ownership" of the guild, the guild members are the yin to the guild master's/management's yang. One does not live without the other in a successful guild (your definition of successful may vary), thus I believe that both "teams" have a sort of equal ownership of the guild in question. While I believe that the management team should have the final say, I think that they should always listen to their guild members prior to making decisions on what is best for the guild as a whole. Again, there should be a balance. The guild is a garden, management teams are the gardeners, the guild master is much like an overseer to ensure that everything is tended to properly. While that overseer may hold the deed to the garden, one can never truly own the grass, the flowers, and the bushes. You cannot own the squirrels and the birds. Everything will go if they so please, and if the overseer and the gardeners do well in their job, they shall generate the interest of other animals and plants.. Sure you can remove some of the aspects of the garden, rearrange them, but you cannot go "This is my land! You shall do as I command!" Okay, perhaps you could, but at what rate those pesky squirrels will listen may vary.

Even prior to the guild changes, everyone put time into a guild. From the lowliest alt to the guild master, whether it was a few seconds choosing a name and getting /ginvited or spending twelve hours a day for six years tending to the guild's needs, time has always been a valued thing. I think many folk tend to forget that, and the new systems simply emphasize the time factor instead of allowing it to fall to the wayside. The time spent, the memories earned, the friendships forged, the bosses killed, the loot gained: all of these belong to the guild. No one person can make that happen alone. If they can, they're probably half insane : P

Back to Whence We Came

It's Monday (maybe not so much now that I've spent a few hours babbling and singing on Skype to a friend), and today's theme in the blogging world seems to be that of nostalgia. In many corners of the blogging world there seems to be a lot of the feelings being expressed as of late due to the loss of several high profile personalities. I'm still rather new to the blogosphere so some of these feelings are a tad bit lost on me, but the feeling of loss and being left out of a certain aspect (ie getting to know these apparently amazing folks) still has a bit of an impact on a newbie such as myself. That's not quite what I want to talk about in this post though. Quite frankly others (namely Vidyala and Fannon) have covered this topic much more thoroughly than I can at this point in time. So, what am I getting at?

Well, I actually have a nostalgic topic of my own that runs semi parallel to this topic. You see, much like my fellow bloggers who have been here for a while, I have a certain ache in my heart. I'm missing the "good ol' days" a lot myself lately, but instead of missing people from the blogosphere I am instead finding myself once again pining for the days of old guilds.

You know that famous saying, all good things must come to an end? It undoubtedly seems to hold true no matter what world those good things come to fruition in. I suppose it's time for another Saz story.

The Sky is Falling!

Alrighty, so I've been meaning to start up another segment in my writing, a column I suppose you could call it? Unfortunately I haven't quite gotten around to it yet, seeing as though I'm actually able to play WoW again! One of my buddies suggested that I should simply put WoW on an external hard drive, since I didn't have enough room on my laptop's basic hard drive. He then dug up this external hard drive over on Newegg.com and I proceeded to order it. I must say, I'm in love....and it was only $30. 120g hard drive for $30? Can't go wrong.

So I've been busy lag-playing like crazy. I've been attempting to get caught up on all of the event quests on both Saz and Kelebek, farming Anzu on both of these toons, farming ZG as much as I can on Saz (both mounts still fail to drop for me), attempting to get the rest of my pages for the Scepter of the Shifting Sands and I've been camping rares on my hunter.

Today I finally migrated my Shaman from Battle of Serenity over to Easy Company. Honestly, it was crazy to be able to speak to people in guild chat again. I'm pretty darn excited for the change. It's going to be an adjustment not having to deal with the management of a guild, but it should be good for me. Much less stressful, to say the least.

I managed to get my paws on the chapter out of MC for the Scepter quest line, and after EC ran AQ40 tonight, we ran Onyxia's layer. Sadly, there was three of us on the quest line, and not a one of us got our chapter from her. Hopefully I can get both the Ony and BWL chapters tomorrow, and hopefully I won't have to buy a ton of elementium to finish this bugger...

As far as mounts are concerned, RNG is still being a hater.

Trying to complete the Elemental Invasion events is bring problematic. The spawns in Northrend are a bit difficult to track down, but at least we now get credit for closing the rifts in either IF or SW....assuming your video card doesn't die from spell over load that is (which mine kind of does). It was pretty fun getting to do the old bosses once those were opened, to say the least.

A piece of advice for all you Hunters planning to fly around to try and tame rare pets: get epic flying! I've been putting around on my little 100% bird on my Hunter, and it's pretty maddening after being spoiled by my Shaman's and Druid's 310%. I'm now attempting to hit the 30k gold mark so I can buy her at least 280% flying to help out in my mission to catch all kinds of rare animals. So far though I've managed to tame four of the twenty-something pets on my list. Nothing too fancy yet, but I'm working on fixing that ; )

Currently I have my Hunter parked out in Netherstorm, waiting for the opportunity to tame Nuramoc. Hopefully I'll get him soon so I can move on to Northrend critters!

So that's what I've been up to. Hopefully I'll have the time/ambition to write up a new article for you all either later on tonight or sometime tomorrow. I think some of you may really dig what I have in mind. In the event that I get to preoccupied to start up my new column, you all will at least still get this week's edition of Hoarders. Are you pumped? I'm sure you are : P
